PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS IN THE SPARTATHLON RACE 2014 |
You are kindly requested to read carefully the following guidelines/prerequisites, as their acceptance is a condition for the activation of the ‘ENTRY FORM’ document.
1. PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS
Every very well trained, experienced and healthy runner, over 18 years of age, may participate in the SPARTATHLON race. Participants do undertake full responsibility for their personal health and wellbeing. Every participating runner must register himself to the race and should have received the official acceptance of the International Spartathlon Association (ISA).
Guidelines and other legally binding instructions, may be furnished to the participants only by the Organizer of the race (ISA) and/or his certified personnel. If these instructions are not followed by some participants or their supporters and this disturbs the smooth progress of the race or endangers other athletes/supporters or visitors, the Organizer has the right to preclude/disqualify these persons. The observance of the rules/guidelines contained herein, is a contractual obligation of each participating athlete. 2. PARTICIPATION PREREQUISITES
Every athlete/runner who has at least one of the below conditions has the right of participating in the Spartathlon 2014 race :
a) To have successfully completed a Spartathlon race in 36hrs.
b) To have reached ,during a Spartathlon race, Check Point (C/P) 52 (Nestani), within a time limit of 24,5 hrs.
c) To have covered a distance of at least 180 kms in a 24hr race.
d) To have covered a distance of at least 280 kms in a 48hr race.
e) To have completed a race of at least 200 kms , within 37 hrs.
f) To have successfully completed a 100 kms race, within 10,5 hrs.
g) To have successfully completed the OLYMPIAN race (Anc. Nemea-Olympia) within 28 hrs.
h) To have successfully completed the EFHIDAS race, within 11 hrs.
Athletes/runners should have succeeded the above prerequisites, within 2012, 2013 and 2014 years.
3. CERTIFICATION
Interested athletes should send to ISA a Proof Certificate by the Organizers of the relevant races or the Athletic Club to which they belong, confirming successful completion of at least one of the above mentioned prerequisites.
4. DEADLINE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF REGISTRATION
Applications may be submitted from 15th of January 2014 19:00 hrs Greek time (17:00 GMT). The first 380 applications will be initially accepted (in order of absolute time precedence). The applications over 380, will be placed on waiting list, in order to cover withdrawals.
5. ACCEPTANCE PROCEDURE
The participant will be filling-in the electronic initial application Form with his/her official Proof Certificate attached and will be immediately receiving a Receipt confirmation . This application Form will be assessed by the Organizer and within the next few days the participant will receive by e-mail the INITIAL acceptance accompanied by the ENTRY FORM. The payment/receipt of the participation fee in the Spartathlon race, and of the ENTRY FORM duly filled-in, together with the NECESSARY submission of a recent passport type photograph of the participant, will have to be effected by 15th of May 2014 at the latest.
Following the receipt/collection of all the above i.e. Entry Form application, photograph, Proof Certificate and fee remittance, the Race Number of the applicant will be posted on the official site of ISA (www.spartathlon.gr), signaling his/her definite participation in the race. After the 16th May 2014, all the applications of athletes/runners who have not fulfilled their obligations as above towards ISA, will be automatically considered as cancelled/non-existent. Needless to say, that the applicants who will fulfill their obligations well before the deadline, will see their Race Number posted on the Spartathlon website much earlier. Applicants on the waiting list, will be officially informed of their application status and according their precedence number, after the 16th of May 2014. 6. PARTICIPATION FEE
The participation fee for the athletes is € 450 payable to ISA’s account held with ALPHA BANK, in favour of Int’l Spartathlon Association.

The fee includes: the right of participating in the race, all meals during the race and all transfers where and when needed, plus the athlete’s free attendance to the Spartathlon Awards Ceremony. I.S.A. would like to point out that it offers FREE OF CHARGE to all participating athletes, their fullboard stay at Athens and Sparta between 24/09 and 29/09 September(30th out), in hotels of ISA’s choice. RELEASE OF RESPONSIBILITY OF I.S.A.
The Organizer is not liable for any health issue of any participating athlete/runner during the Spartathlon race. It is for the participant to rest assured, that he/she is fit and in good health throughout the race. The participant is responsible for his/her own equipment and its use during the race according to the race rules. The Organizer is not to be held liable for any loss in valuables, clothes or any other equipment whatsoever and rejects beforehand any responsibility for damages that may occur because some participant may be hindered from taking part in the race, due to legal regulations and/or governmental orders and/or restrictions. It is strongly recommended to the participants, to have a life insurance in place, covering transfer back home in case of illness.
7. UTILIZATION OF PERSONAL DATA
The participants accept hereby that their personal particulars and their record/race times, may be used by ISA for purposes such as concluding finishers times List, electronic time measurement and posting same at its website. All personal participants’ details contained in Entry Forms during the registration procedure, will be saved in ISA’s database and will only be used for purposes closely related with the race realization. By registering to the race, participants do agree that their data will be saved for that purpose. They also agree that personal data such as photos, birth dates, finish rank, race videos, interviews and other race related information may be published/broadcasted by ISA through TV, radio, internet, newspapers, books etc. without any compensation to the participant.
8. FORCE MAJEURE – RACE CANCELLATION
In case of cancellation of the Spartathlon race 2014 due to situations of Force Majeure or any reasons attributable to extreme weather, strikes, roads blockades or any other reason upon which the Organizer has not any control whatsoever, the participant agrees that he/she is not entitled to any participation fee return or remuneration for any traveling or hotel expenses incurred.
10. MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
The athletes/runners who already possess a Medical Certificate are kindly requested to attach it straight to their Registration application here below. The ones that lack such a certificate, should procure the ISA with one, issued after 26/06/2014 and send it by e-mail (www.spartathlon.gr), or fax it (+30 210 3227 485),or even mail it to ISA (T.Θ. 30125 , ATHENS 10033), latest by 20/09/2014.
11. CANCELLATIONS
In case the applicant cancels his participation no matter for what reason, the participation fee is not returned or credited. Individual participation applications from athletes residing in Germany or Japan will not be accepted. Athletes from these two countries are kindly requested to address to the local SPARTATHLON offices (see addresses and details under ‘contact’ on our website).More info under ‘frequent questions’.
12. LIMITATIONS
I.S.A. due to the athletes’ excessive demand from certain countries, regrets but it’s obliged to limit participations, as follows:
